WHY THE LOGYBB PROJECT??? It is our view that anti-social behavior among young adults and youths is often the result a number of factors including: • Poor living standards • Dysfunctional family units • Peer pressure • UNEMPLOYMENT – due to lack of proper education • UNEDUCATION - due to lack of financial support These often result in absenteeism from school, poor educational achievements, and lack of skills resulting in lack of career prospects. A vicious circle then begins resulting in frustration, lack of proper vision for the future, helplessness, emotional pain, insecurity, dysfunctional relationships and a blame somebody culture (my situation is all because of them-my parents, my teachers, the government etc) resulting in a victim mentality helpless to change one’s future and destiny. This further feeds into substance misuse, gang culture and violent crime. Background Therefore three young ladies from the community who have a passion for brass music established Lord’s Grace Youth Band in order to motivate uneducated and unemployed youngsters to gain self esteem and live a purpose full life, and therefore dedicate to themselves to support marginalize and destitute young adults and youth and the community on the grass root level through music. Because we believe music serves as an emotional trigger that can be used for good or evil purposes. Mission Objective The objective of the Band is to maintain, improve, and advance the mobilization of the destitute young adults and youth through the promotion and practice of brass music, and any other charitable purposes as the executive committee in its absolute discretion from time to time may determine. Also to provide spiritual, social, physical and emotional support to the community on the grass root level through music by performing at funeral services, wedding services, church services and at charity events Programs/ Purpose The Lord’s Grace Youth Brass Band is a non-profit making establishment that is out to support the destitute young adults and youth from the community who are unemployed, uneducated, semi-educated and insecure by offering: 1 Basic brass music training to them and thus creating an opportunity for them to think a future of possibilities. 2 A positive, can do attitude and by developing self esteem and also to instil the values of discipline, dedication and respect in the youth by using brass music as a tool. 2 Life skills workshops on subjects affecting youth such as HIV & Aids, importance of Education, Substance misuse 3 Talent concerts with music to engage with youths and instil values and vision. 4 Motivate the youth to get further training in Music, Education, Vocational Skills and find ways to assist them to go for training (possibly arrange Overseas trips. As such trips may have long lasting positive effects. VISSION STATEMENT 1) To have a firm Music School that will provide professional musicians from the community who cannot afford to go to music school. 2) To create a fund that will assist or avail bursaries for further studies to disadvandage youth to help the to study further (in areas such as music, vocational, formal school etc) We firmly believe that this would create a positive environment for them, helping them to change from an attitude of frustration and hopelessness to a positive “I can do” attitude, from attitude of blaming others and government for one’s situation to an attitude of “my future is in my own hands and I can have the future of my dreams” attitude. Furthermore, we have are also encourage by the Bible verse Psalm 98: 4-6 (Which says) Make a joyful noise unto the Lord, all the earth: make a loud noise, and rejoice, and sing praise. Sing unto the Lord with the harp; and the voice of a psalm. With trumpets and sound of cornet make a joyful noise before the Lord, the King. We, the LOGYBB TEAM believes that… MUSIC has a message, with or without words And that ……… Music speaks what cannot be express… Music heals the Heart and makes it Whole…. Music soothes the Mind and gets it Rest….. Music flows from Heaven to the Soul… MUSIC & MORALS……… We have stated our contention that music does have moral values. We realize that morality dwells in human beings — not in black ink on white paper! However, we believe music serves as an emotional trigger that can be used for good or evil purposes.
